Some large or complex items require a handling fee based on their size, weight, construction, safety requirements, and downstream disposal costs.
Batteries require extra care because of fire risk, regulatory requirements, and specialized downstream recycling. These fees help cover safe handling, transportation, and processing.
Important: Batteries must be handed directly to a Dispo.tech employee. Never leave batteries outside when we’re closed. Exposure to weather can damage batteries and create a serious fire or safety hazard.
We accept only the common household and office batteries listed below. We can’t accept large electric vehicle batteries or other battery types. If you’re unsure, please call before bringing them in.
Fees may be waived when these items are part of a larger collection containing more computers and servers. Ask us for details.

"Regular" AAA, AA, C, D, & 9-volt household batteries.
* Manufacturer's label must clearly state that they are Alkaline. Batteries must be in a non-conductive container. This can be a ziplock freezer bag or any other plastic container.

The most common types of batteries used in smartphones and laptops (soft-sided and hard-cased).
* Manufacturer's label must clearly state that they are Lithium-ion (Li-ion). Battery terminals must be covered with clear packing tape to avoid a 50¢ per battery charge.

One of the oldest secondary (rechargeable) battery technologies, their common uses include industrial backup systems, aviation emergency power, and older heavy-duty cordless tools.
* Manufacturer's label must clearly state that they are NiCd. Cover exposed terminals with non-conductive clear packing tape.

Common uses include standard household items like digital cameras, TV remotes, flashlights, cordless phones, children's toys, two-way radios, and radio-controlled (RC) vehicles.

Small, coin-shaped batteries most often used in small devices like key fobs, watches, hearing aids, and glucose meters.
* The manufacturer’s label must clearly identify each battery as lithium. To avoid a 50¢ preparation fee per battery, cover all terminals with clear packing tape before bringing them in. Multiple batteries may be placed between two layers of tape, provided they are spaced apart so each battery is fully enclosed in its own sealed pouch and can’t touch another battery.

IMPORTANT: Swollen lithium batteries are dangerous if not handled properly. Please use extreme caution when handling them.
Place each damaged battery in it's own individually sealed plastic bag, being careful not to squeeze or puncture the "pillow".
